Oakland Lifers Oath

As a proud member of Oakland Lifers, I pledge to be a guardian of both the environment and social justice in my community. I recognize that my actions, both large and small, have a lasting impact on the world around me. I vow to be intentional and accountable for my footprint—ensuring I am part of the solution, not the problem.

I pledge to:

Respect and Protect the Environment – I will actively work to reduce waste, conserve resources, and minimize pollution in my daily life. I will be conscious of the impact I have on our air, water, and land, and will take steps to leave a cleaner, healthier Oakland for future generations.
Be a Steward of Justice – I will stand against environmental and social injustices that disproportionately affect marginalized communities in Oakland. I will advocate for equity, fairness, and access to resources for all people, particularly the BIPOC and Returning Family Members who face systemic barriers.
Reduce My Environmental Footprint – I commit to reducing my carbon footprint by making more sustainable choices, such as using less plastic, recycling, reusing materials, and supporting local green businesses. I will encourage others to do the same and work toward creating a culture of environmental consciousness in my community.
Hold Myself and Others Accountable – I will hold myself accountable for the way my actions impact both the environment and the people around me. I will call on my fellow community members to do the same, ensuring that together we make Oakland a city where people and the environment thrive.
Educate and Empower – I will use my voice to spread awareness of environmental and social justice issues, and I will empower those around me to take action. I will share the knowledge I gain to help uplift my neighbors, so we can all be informed advocates for a better future.

By taking this oath, I commit to being an Oakland Lifer—a lifelong champion of environmental justice, a voice for the underrepresented, and a caretaker of our city's future. Together, we will create a cleaner, healthier, and more equitable Oakland for everyone.
